Programmes that equip the Church

Two training pathways, one goal: gospel workers who handle the Word faithfully.

Overview

Two pathways, one goal

GTI responds to the training gap with in-depth, foundational Bible training and practical ministry skills — delivered both where people already serve, and in a classroom setting. The curriculum nurtures gospel workers through four stages: know, believe, live and preach.

Programme one

Equip the Church (ETC)

Starts January 2027 Juba & Rokon 10 months

A mobile ministry for people already serving in the local church. Workshops take Bible genres and practical skills — preaching, evangelism, church leadership — to pastors, clergy and laypeople at the grassroots.

By the end, participants will

  • See how the Bible’s story of redemption fits together.
  • Explain the gospel clearly.
  • Handle the Bible’s genres and move from text to talk.
  • Preach and teach the text faithfully and clearly.
  • Lead their congregation with integrity and love.

Language accessibility. ETC suits English and non-English speakers alike; GTI seeks translators in rural settings.

The 2027 workshop journey

Five workshops, two locations, ten months

Each group meets once every two months for a five-day workshop, building progressively through the curriculum. Group One gathers in Juba, Group Two in Rokon. Those who complete all five workshops are awarded a certificate and commissioned for ministry.

How participants are chosen. GTI first builds a partnership with the local church, and participants are selected through the leadership of the partner church. A formal means of communication is established for follow-up, and a high level of commitment — including full attendance — is required.

Programme two

Classroom Ministry Training (CMT)

Starts 2028 Training centre, Juba English

A six-month programme for men and women considering ministry responsibility, identified by their local church. Admission is by oral interview, with a few documents and testimonies.

Training runs full-time on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in Juba — 11 weeks, a two-week break, then a return to finish. The first cohorts come from nearby.

By the end, students will be equipped to

  • Know, love and live for God more deeply.
  • Reverence God’s Word and study it faithfully.
  • Understand the gospel and defend it.
  • Preach and teach Christ faithfully and clearly.
  • Serve the local church with wisdom, integrity and skill.

Bursaries matter. CMT depends on generous believers, and GTI raises bursaries so cost is never a barrier to those God has called; sending churches are invited to share the cost.

Assessment

How students are assessed

Assessment follows each student’s progress and forms them for ministry, rather than simply testing knowledge.

  • Prepare and deliver an expository sermon or Bible talk.
  • Write a reflection on each module.
  • Read an assigned book and write a book review.
  • Prepare a group presentation on an assigned topic.
  • Complete class exercises for modules such as English.
  • Give and receive constructive feedback in preaching groups.

Training model

Four stages of ministry formation

GTI adopts a model similar to Living Word Uganda — an African expression of the Cornhill Training model in the UK. It is gospel-centred, pastoral and theologically sound, aimed at helping students grow as faithful Bible teachers and preachers.

A curriculum rooted in Scripture

The curriculum focuses on skills and tools for biblical interpretation, essential Christian doctrines, ministry practice and Christian life — nurturing gospel workers through four stages of formation.

1 Know the Gospel Stage 1

The Bible’s story of redemption, and the gospel at its centre.

2 Believe the Gospel Stage 2

Essential Christian doctrine that grounds conviction and guards against error.

3 Live out the Gospel Stage 3

Christian life and character shaped by the cross of Christ.

4 Preach & Teach Faithfully Stage 4

Moving from text to talk — preaching and teaching the passage in context.

Curriculum building blocks

What our students study

Biblical Foundation

The Bible’s metanarrative, genres and tools for interpretation.

Core Christian Doctrines

The essentials of the faith, understood and defended.

Ministry Practice 1 & 2

Preaching, evangelism, discipleship and church leadership.

Christian Life

Godliness, integrity and shepherding God’s people with love.

Public Speaking & English

Communicating clearly, in the language of the congregation.

Post-classroom

Support that continues after training

Completion is not the end of the relationship. GTI keeps investing in those it has trained, so that they keep growing and keep teaching faithfully.

Library access

Alumni keep free access to GTI’s library to deepen their understanding through good Christian books.

Scholarship pathways

Partnerships with sound theological colleges — such as George Whitefield College in Cape Town — to seek a scholarship for one student each cohort.

Conferences & refreshers

Alumni benefit from GTI conferences, refresher workshops and seminars. Most ETC participants will be the first to attend the mini-conference planned for mid-August 2028.

Books to keep

Those who complete training receive a few good Christian books, with others made available at a lower cost.

Would you like to partner and pray with us?

GTI prayerfully seeks gospel-minded individuals, churches, institutions and organisations to share the work — so that no one misses training because of cost. The door is open.
